Hey, What's The Big Idea?
Petaling Jaya, 01 August 2008 - How does RM80,000 sound to you? Pretty good, considering it’s what you could be paid for your big TV idea.
Media Prima is kicking off the “What’s Your Big TV Idea?” competition this month under its TV production arm, Primeworks Studios (PWS). Based on originality, innovation and entertainment value; twenty finalists will be shortlisted to pitch to their ideas to PWS’s board of ‘Seriously Big Bosses’ (management and executives from all Media Prima network stations) and each will automatically receive RM3,000.
The one that gets the final nod from the ‘Big Bosses’ will pick up an extra RM20,000. Not only that, the winner gets an instant foot in the entertainment industry door. The winner’s idea will be further developed and will eventually go into production - his/her name will appear under ‘Based on the Original Idea by…’ during the credits of the programme. “What we want out of this competition is to get people to start thinking again! Good TV comes from good ideas and we're giving a platform for anyone to offer up their ideas for a chance to be heard and we'll acknowledge (credit) you for it,” says Marini Ramlan, Manager, Content Development, Primeworks Studios.
The closing date for submissions is 14 September. So hurry up and get your ideas heard by heading to www.bigidea.com.my for more information on how to enter.

Primeworks Studios - Mampukah Memasarkan Produk Malaysia?
Petaling Jaya, 18 August 2008 -
MINGGU lepas, Primeworks Studios Sdn.
Peluang menangi RM80,000

Media Prima unit to liven up content
Petaling Jaya, 12 September 2008 -
MEDIA Prima Bhd has grouped its in-house production operations into a wholly-owned unit, Primeworks Studios Sdn Bhd, to strengthen its revenue stream by providing content to third parties.
"We aim to develop and supply content to other networks such as RTM and Astro while bettering the quality of local content to export internationally," Primeworks Studios chief operating officer Farisha Pawanteh told reporters in Petaling Jaya yesterday at the unit's launch.
She said that the unit is expected to contribute positively to Media Prima's bottom line, but declined to elaborate.
"We will also be assisting in marketing the works of Malaysian producers to the global market and creating business opportunities for industry players to tap," Farisha added.
Currently, Primeworks Studios is supplying content to several Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia, Brunei and the Philippines.
Farisha said the unit was also in talks with major international studios, such as NBC Universal, on potential strategic partnerships to produce content.
Primeworks Studios, which will develop content for television, movie and any new media, also enables Media Prima to pool its resources in content creation as it handles production work for TV3, ntv7, 8TV, TV9 and Grand Brilliance Sdn Bhd.
Last year, Media Prima Television Networks group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Farid Ridzuan told Business Times that the unit would provide career growth opportunities for its producers.
He added that overall production cost could be reduced by 10-20 per cent as the stations would be sharing infrastructure and manpower costs.
"Those additional savings can be invested in producing better local content to be exported," he had said.
In conjunction with the launch, Primeworks Studios is holding the "What's Your Big TV Idea" competition for Malaysians, with RM80,000 cash prize for the winner.
Individuals with breakthrough ideas for original television show concepts in either English or Bahasa Malaysia should submit their ideas by September 14.
Twenty shortlisted candidates will then get the chance to sell their ideas in person to a panel and be given RM3,000 for the pitch. For more information, log on to www.bigidea.com.my
